This chart tracks the major US stock indexes.
Each index is made up of a particular group of stocks that it tracks. (Chart will show delayed quotes. Use for general reference only. For quotes updated every few minutes, see Yahoo Finance.)

Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is a widely followed index, but it only tracks 30 industrial company stocks, so is not always a broad market indicator.

NASDAQ is a computerized national and international trading market for "over-the-counter" stocks. This index tracks several thousand stocks.

Standard and Poors 500 (S&P 500) tracks 500 large company stocks traded in the US on major exchanges. It's an important economic indicator. There are many mutual funds that are made up of the "S&P 500".
